A Project Born From Personal Experience

This project started from a very personal need. A close person of mine developed aphasia following severe brain damage. Aphasia is a neurological condition that affects a person's ability to speak, understand language, read, or write, often while leaving intelligence and personality intact.

While searching for communication aids, I noticed there were many products designed for children, but very few solutions tailored to adults facing similar challenges. Together with my friend Kateřina Roznerová, we set out to create a simple set of communication cards that would help adults express basic needs, emotions, and requests when speech becomes difficult.

From Idea to Physical Product

We designed, produced, and physically manufactured the first set of cards, giving us a functional MVP that could be tested in real-life situations.

To make navigation easier, the cards were color-coded by category. Different colors represent emotions, body-related needs, actions, and urgent situations, allowing users and caregivers to quickly locate relevant topics during communication.

The long-term vision was to build a website and make the product available to a wider audience. While the cards ultimately proved unsuitable in my own situation due to the severity of the brain injury, I still believe they could be valuable for people with milder forms of aphasia, communication difficulties, or even some autistic individuals who struggle to express emotions, needs, or discomfort verbally.
